Sugar Scrub Gifts

As I have stated recently I too have joined the Pinterest nation.  I came across this sugar scrub and decided to make it for Anna's teachers as part of their Christmas gifts.  It is the first time I have made a scrub and it will not be my last.  This is super easy and makes a great gift.  The whole thing - scrub, container, and label - were completed in about 20 minutes.  I had the fabric at home and just used some card stock that I had at home for the labels; however you could get really carried away the labels if you are a major scrapbooker (I am not).  I also did a foot scrub - Will post the recipe later.  I packaged this scrub and the foot scrub in a cute bag with some super soft socks.

Items you will need for this project:

  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • 3 cups White Sugar
  • 1 cup + 2 tbsp. quality oil (the woman who posted this used olive oil, but you can use any nice, non-smelly oil)
  • 10 drops of "yummy" scented essential oil per jar you are making (this amount filled 4 8oz Ball jars, so I used 40 drops of oil)

the items

Combine your sugar and oil.  Mix well, and divide into separate bowls if you are planning to flavor them separately (you can skip this if you are only doing one scent)  Add your essential oil, stir and divide among your jars.

Done! Easy Peasy!
I cut a square of fabric to cover over the top of my jar to make it more festive.

Pinterest has captured me!

Well I too have gotten taken by Pinterest, this thing is more addictive than Facebook.  It is great though - you can find just about any thing you are looking to do and a crap load of things you never thought about doing but now want to do!  It has fashion, kids, DIY, travel, food, drinks, art, books, and then the videos.  Well lets just say that you can waste a whole lot of time on there!

Move over Willie Wonka

I decided to take on a new recipe.  This time it was a "candy" one.  I have found some great looking recipes on Pinterest and wanted to try one out.

Oreo Truffles!

The person who submitted this on Pinterest said it is a 3 ingredient recipe and it sure was!  The author has a blog called chef-n-training.blogspot.com, get recipes on there.

OREO TRUFFLES
  • 1 package Double Stuffed Oreos
  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened (you can use up to 8 oz., I just like this consistency better)
  • Dipping chocolate
Chop Oreos up finely in a food processor.  Save some of the finely crushed Oreos for garnish later and set it aside.  You don't need too much.

With hands (or a spoon, I just think hands are faster), mash softened cream cheese and crushed Oreos until well combined.

Roll into 1" balls and place on a wax covered cookie sheet. Put in freezer for 15 minutes.

While balls are in freezer, melt chocolate according to directions.

Pull the Oreo Truffles out of freezer, and dip into chocolate.  Garnish with reserved Oreo crumbs before the chocolate sets up.

Let chocolate set, refrigerate and enjoy!

***I put sprinkles on my in red and green since I was using them for a cookie exchange but you can decorate with just about any thing depending on the occasion.

Yummy!!!
